Five Bands/Musicians That Are Important To Me → 04. Manchester Orchestra

I could easily add in Right Away, Great Captain! and Bad Books and just make number four into ‘Andy Hull’s brain’, but I’ll try to cut back a little.  Manch Orch always blows me away.  After every album, I tell my sister that I’m prepared to be disappointed in their next album because nothing will be able to top this one.  Every time she agrees.  And every time we’re proven wrong.  I don’t mean to sound like an ageist bastard, but I just can’t comprehend how they even exist at their age.  It’s not because I think young people are incapable of creating quality music, but there’s just SO much of it.  And the progression of their sound is amazing because you can hear the growth if you go through the albums sequentially.  It’s clearly them, but each album is so different from the one before it.  Pretty much everything they put out is amazing.  And they do slow and quiet just as well as they do fast and loud (that’s what she said?).

I could probably go on and on and write a commercial about how awesome they are so here: brilliant lyrics, awesome sound, amazing live.

Favourite songs: Colly Strings, I Can Feel A Hot One, It’s OK With Me, In My Teeth, Simple Math, Pale Black Eye, and pretty much the rest of the Simple Math album.
