“Am I correct to defend the fist that holds this pen?
It’s the width of my head that lies
The flannel, the flannel, the flannel.”—brandnew, “Good to Know That If I Ever Need Attention All I Have To Do Is Die”
what happened during manchester's turntable thing? :'( did i miss kd?
not too much, the music selections were good and their chat box was amusing but no, you didn’t really ~miss kd. he was just typing random outbursts in the chat at one point. i mostly had no fucking clue what he was talking about, but it was still like a kevin is so great moment. you know.
“There was a six year-old girl who was returning from a wedding on Long Island, on a road that was maybe a mile and a half from my house. And it was late that night and there were two limousines following each other and the younger girl was in the front limousine and her mother and family were in the rear limousine. And some kid, you know, some Long Island over-privileged white kid had a fight with his girlfriend and decided he would go tie one on. He got in his SUV and got on the exit ramp of a highway and was just booking down the wrong side of the highway and didn’t even see this limousine coming at him. Didn’t hit the breaks, just hit them head-on. And the little girl, Katie Flynn, she was decapitated, and the limo driver was killed instantly. And the limousine that was behind the first limousine stopped and the mother got out and she ran to see if she could find her daughter, and she found her daughter’s head lying in the middle of the highway. So she picked it up and she sat on the side of the curb with her daughter’s head in her lap while the rescue workers cut her daughter’s body out of the limo…enough bad things happen in life that are beyond are control for things that are in our control to go on like that.” -Jesse Lacey
“K, it’s your ride. Get your petals out and lay them in the aisle Pretend you are God and grow, And it’s your day to wed We’ve found your man. He’s drinking up. He’s all-American, and he’ll drive. He’s volunteered with grace to end your life. We’ll tidy up. It’s sad to hold, but leave your shell to us You explode, you firefly, you tiny boat with oars, Feather oars The world tilts back and pours and pours And so, you satellite, you tidal wave, You’re a big surprise And I’ve one more night to be your mother.”
Popular opinion states that a band’s business model in the current economic and technological climate is ‘give the music away for free, make money on tour’. But, with rising costs and…
Informative and interesting read. Being on the road isn’t as glamourous or carefree as it seems from the outside.
Yup. This and this all over again. He’s very right. There are a ton of factors that go into being in a band like this, and you have to keep in mind other things like how many ways it has to be split. Let’s say it’s a five person band, which is very common. Five people, plus manager, plus merch guy/gal, plus sometimes a photographer/videographer, and then a roadie, and in some rare cases a van or bus driver. Now, granted, many of those people you’d hope to have as “hybrids,” people that can do two or three of those jobs at once. But the point is, sometimes you may have up to 8 or 9 people on tour with you squeezed in your van. And that can really split your profit a lot more than you originally thought. Definitely do what they said. Buy merch or buy CDs AT the shows, not online if you can, and not at the store.
hey i think i'm seeing david bazan tonight too! :)
